Descent Results!!

(Sorry for no picture. Blogspot's being stupid right now.)

Just got back last night from my weekend with Mark. We've been tryimg to resolve some balance issues with the "Well Of Darkness" expansion set for "Descent". At first we thought it might be as simple as adding some constant bonuses in favor of the heroes, but we discovered over the course of the weekend that there are a few design flaws in the Well of Darkness expansion pack that really need to be examined. Nothing bad enough to keep a Descent fan from buying it, but definately worth looking into.

We're used to a game design that favors the heroes, making it possible, but not near as likely, for the "evil" player to win. Descent makes the odds even and sometimes in the Overlord's favor. We've concluded that our preferred style will require a more "gamemaster" type of player to control monsters, whose goal is first and foremost to make the game fun and challenging for the hero players, but not necessarily to play competitively against them.

Even so, I plan on getting on the Fantasy Flight Games message boards to see if anyome has developed some balancing homebrew rules to fix the issues we ran into with this expansion pack.

All in all, it was a great weekend! Now I'm working on my wife to run me through a game of Heroquest!
